Cars Race O Rama
SCORE: 92
Few games get a sequel let alone a third iteration. I can barely believe it has been three years since Disney Pixar Cars was released. Cars Race O Rama is the third game, and Tantalus (editor: the developer) knows what they are doing. This Nintendo DS game is very similar to the Playstation Portable version. This is cool, because the PSP game is pretty good. The visuals may not be as pretty in the DS version, but the loading times are way less. Chick Hicks has decided he wants to take over Radiator Springs. My belief is the big green monster has infected Chick. He does have a green paint job so it would fit.
For a Nintendo DS game Cars Race O Rama looks okay. Cars look like their movie, and toy counter parts. The tracks have some great details, especially the advertisements. I noticed Lightyear in a wide array of places. There are various locales in Cars Race O Rama that expands this animated universe. From time to time I bumped other cars, but I slammed into a lot more walls.
There are some funny sound bytes used in this game. The cut scenes have the words written, so if you want to enjoy the story you will need a basic reading ability. If you are reading this review, you will have no problem reading the dialogue. Cars Race O Rama has awesome classic Cars music. The special effect sounds are auto-related. I think I may have just made up a new word. I did not find any offensive sounds or words while playing Cars Race O Rama on the Nintendo DS.
Cars Race O Rama contains seventeen tracks with fifteen racers. There are wrenches hidden all over the race tracks. Collecting them will unlock various content. Cars Race O Rama has single card, and multi-card play options. Up to four players can have fun together with this DS game.
I had no problems controlling Cars Race O Rama. It is very difficult to earn a boost in this game. I would have liked a little tweak there, but it made me concentrate on racing more. I had fun playing Cars Race O Rama, as did everyone I played it with.
Cars Race O Rama taught me
to race clean, pay attention to my surroundings, and there is more than
one path to the finish line. I think Cars Race O Rama is the best
version of Cars on the Nintendo DS. Cars Race O Rama is safe for the
entire family. Will a fourth game be coming? I hope so.
