Wall-E
SCORE: 87
I am very excited to see the new Wall-E Disney Pixar movie. I may wait until it comes out on DVD, since going to the theater is so expensive. So playing a video game based on the movie is the next best thing. THQ hit a Family Friendly Gaming home run with almost every single Cars video game they released (and that we reviewed). I know THQ can make an excellent movie based video game, and silence the negative fanboys. Come along for a little space ride to see if Wall-E Wii is more like Cars Wii, or Ratatouille Wii.
The graphical department starts off really dusty, and dingy. That goes along with the theme of an over-polluted planet earth. This poor little robot has had 700 years alone cleaning up the trash. He makes cubes of trash and stacks them very high. The company billboards, and advertisements look great, and once the player is off the planet some real diversity of color arrives. There is some cartoon violence as Eve can shoot a laser beam to take out obstacles.
There is something so innocent about the voice used for Wall-E. Eve also has a nice voice that goes along nicely with the material. The music is an eclectic bouquet from different time ranges. The anti-technology message is interesting in a movie using high tech techniques.
There is a fair amount of unlockable content in Wall-E Wii. The Wii version is a little shorter than the Xbox 360, and PS3 versions, but still gives a decent game for the price of admission. Most of the levels are pretty linear, and I really wanted to do some exploration of the world.
Wall-E Wii controls better than the other versions, especially in Eve’s levels. It took a bit longer to learn the throwing mechanic since it is not as automatic in the Wii game. I had fun playing Wall-E Wii, and recommend this game to fans of the movie. The violence is light in this game.
Lazy humans who rely on
technology is actually an excellent lesson to teach children. We have a
garden at our house as an excuse to get away from technology and get
outside. There is also a love story in Wall-E, and it allows people to
reflect on taking a chance to follow one’s dream.
