My Pokemon Ranch
SCORE: 76
My Pokemon Ranch is one of the more interesting WiiWare games on the
Nintendo Wii. This game is sort of like Pokemon Snap. Players put their
Mii's, and then Pokemon that look like Mii's in a ranch. Taking pictures
of the different Pokemon, and watching them play is the main goal. Well
I should not say that, since there is one more key element. Players
acquire more and more Pokemon for their ranch on a daily basis. The game
will give the player a new Pokemon every day, and they can be imported
from Pokemon Diamond, and Pokemon Pearl.
I was a little turned off in the Mii versions of the Pokemon at first.
After I spent some time with My Pokemon Ranch I got used to it, and it
was pretty cool. Being able to take pictures like Pokemon Snap is a
sweet way to learn photography skills. The Pokemon will sometimes get
irritated with one another, and do things like call down lightning. This
never made it to the level of fighting in other Pokemon games in my
library.
I enjoyed the sounds in My Pokemon Ranch. The music fits the Pokemon
theme perfectly. There are all the different kinds of Pokemon like the
psychics, and the like. I did not read, or hear any sounds that offended
me while I played My Pokemon Ranch. Certain Pokemon have sounds that may
wake you up if you were half awake.
With so many Pokemon to bring in, and ranch expansions there is a lot of
replay value to My Pokemon Ranch. This downloadable Wii game is also
selling for ten US dollars, so it is very economical. If you like
Pokemon, and want to watch them hang around with each other on a ranch
then My Pokemon Ranch will be worth your hard earned dollars. I know I
will enjoy this game for months.
The game play is the only question mark to My Pokemon Ranch I have.
There does not feel like there is a lot to do. I will play My Pokemon
Ranch for 10 maybe 15 minutes, and then turn it off. I then come back
for the same amount of time the very next day. In retrospect My Pokemon
Ranch is almost like a daily chore. It is fun so it does not feel like a
chore.
Learning how to take care of animals is an excellent lesson for children
to learn. I wish My Pokemon Ranch had more intensive care taking
involved. I do like the minor lessons in photography. I would love to
see a sequel to My Pokemon Ranch, especially if Nintendo adds more to it
(editor: like feeding, and petting the Pokemon).
