MLB08 The Show
SCORE: 86
Baseball is all about the stats. Players have tendencies to do certain things in certain situations. Certain players are weak against certain pitches. MLB08 The Show brings as many of those stats to the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) as it can. This game tells the player the best place to try and pitch it to. Batters can guess the pitch if they so choose Sony has done a good job with the feel of this PSP video game in terms of baseball simulation. Baseball fanatics (editor: aka fans) who want some baseball action on the go can get a decent little baseball game with MLB08 The Show.
The special effects between plays, replays, and generally animation of the players are really good on this hand held video game machine. The fields look generally like their real counter parts. The fans in the stands look like card board cut outs. The graphics of the fans needs a serious upgrade, or cinematic things need to be done to avoid showing them.
I really like the announcers in MLB08 The Show for the PSP. They offer all kinds of wonderful advice about what to look for, or what not to do. Mistakes are addressed, and patience is encouraged. I was not big on the music but it can easily be turned off, and your own jukebox can be created with My MLB Music. This level of adjust ability is really nice to see in a PSP video game.
There are so many wonderful teams to play with in MLB08 The Show that replay value is a no brainier. Sony included quite a few different modes, along with Wi-Fi to play human characters. Trades can be done to create your very own dream team.
The catcher giving advice about what pitch to throw and where is awesome. The problem is the controller on the PSP which gave me problems with ball placement. Get the slider over the plate too much and watch a home run go flying. There were also pitches that the announcers and I thought were strikes that the umpire disagreed. This is all realistic, but not always fun.
I really enjoy the sport
of baseball, and MLB08 The Show does a good job of capturing it. It
takes a team working together in baseball to succeed. I want to see
sequels to this franchise, and have a good feeling that they will keep
coming. MLB08 The Show on the Playstation Portable is safe for the
entire family, and a good game that teaches patience.
