Elebits
SCORE: 90
Elebits is no doubt one of the most wacky titles for your Nintendo Wii. Konami released what is now another one of this reviewers personal favorites. This game has also won this reviewers attention, because this is one of the ONLY First Person Shooter (FPS) games out with NO death in it! In this title, you follow a boy names Kai. In Kai’s world, Elebits power everything. Cars, TV sets, lights, and almost everything are powered by the cute, peaceful Elebits. Kai’s mother and father are Elebits researchers, and are always away from home. Kai is upset and jealous. This game is interesting, and family friendly. Anyone can play because of Elebits’ simple controls.
The graphics of Elebits are a bit under whelming. However, this fits in with the simplistic style of the game. While it may not be the most next-gen graphically, you can still see that Konami put a little more effort in this. Graphics change with environments. The Elebits all have different designs, seven in total. The levels reach from your living room to the city, and to the theme-park! The lighting effects were put to good use. The cut-scenes are beautifully drawn. It’s like reading a story book. So really, this makes the simple graphics a good thing. No offensive images were shown.
The sounds of Elebits are exciting and VERY family friendly. The music ranges from techno, to jazz, to rock. Bosses get their own music, as well. This music is welcomed, even in the most frantic of levels. When picking up objects, there are crashing, banging, bumping, whooshing, and just about everything you can imagine. A lot of thought was put into this department. Elebits all have their own unique squeaks and screams. The acting is horrible. Plain and simple. No offensive sounds were made.
As far as replay, the real challenge is to get grade ‘S’ on all the levels. There are also other categories, such as Challenge mode, Unlimited mode, and others that can keep you busy. Using Wii codes in your system, if you have friends, you can share levels through the level editor. This is a great example of what Wii Connect 24 can do for games. Edit mode is great. Send to friends or receive levels! It’s always a great surprise. There is also unlockable content, such as movies, Elebits info, and pictures (which you can take during the level). Game play is great. Using the Wii Remote, you aim your character and shoot the laser to capture Elebits. Using the nunchuck, you move in a 3-D environment. The gameplay is also very family friendly. Imagine Looney Toons style getting hit by an anvil. The physics in this game are AMAZING. Everything you pick up feels like it has actual weight. In Elebits, you can squish Elebits with books, streetlights, and just about anything. Like mentioned above, there is no death in Elebits, which makes the $50 you bought the game feel well spent. There is a lot to do in Elebits. When Kai is jealous, he goes Elebits hunting. During the game he discovers the Elebits are acting different.
When his mom and dad call, they say the Elebits are acting strange.
While Kai continues, he begins to like the Elebits, and wants to help
them. I won’t ruin it for you, but Mom and Dad do come back and tell Kai
they love him very much. This game has good family value, and can teach
children that their parents work very hard for them. This game is a must
have (in my humble opinion) and I would love to have a sequel. Konami
could also make a good adventure game with the physics used. I recommend
this title, even for the young ones.
