Chrysler Classic Racing
SCORE: 63
Chrysler Classic Racing on the Nintendo DS is a quaint little racing
title. The goal is to become the king of cool. Cool points, as well as
money is collectible items found on the race tracks. The 1950s, and
1960s eras are faithfully reproduced in some small degree. The interest
in racing on the streets, teddy bears, and dating are some of the
content found in this game.
Chrysler Classic Racing was a little hard on the eyes, with some bland
details. I did some comparison, and most of the levels are the same on
the Wii. The main difference between the DS and the Wii version is the
lower graphics and details on the Nintendo DS version.
The music in Chrysler Classic Racing is okay. There are some enjoyable
moments, and I loved the special effect sounds. The whole wanting to
join the gang thing is a little strange. I would never personally have
an interest in joining a gang, and know of people whose lives were
ruined from that lifestyle choice.
I was able to quickly breeze through Chrysler Classic Racing on the
Nintendo DS. The races are a little more difficult on the DS version
(back to that comparison thing), but they are still pretty easy to place
in the top three. There are some unlockables in this game and some
different vehicles to purchase.
The control scheme in Chrysler Classic Racing is pretty standard for
Nintendo DS racing games. Well I suppose that is not entirely true,
since a lot of DS games have touch screen only controls (with steering
wheels). Brakes are needed on certain corners in Chrysler Classic
Racing, which a lot of casual racing games do not demand. I had some fun
playing Chrysler Classic Racing on the DS.
The gang issue is the worst aspect of Chrysler Classic Racing. I like
how the racing action is kept family friendly. Chrysler Classic Racing
is an interesting idea that I would love to see fleshed out even more.
It makes me think that Grease would make a great racing/story game.
