Bratz Super Babyz
SCORE: 81
Mean potato aliens are running amok in Stylesville. They lost ownership of their “Matter Exchanger,” and the Bratz Babyz get turned into super heroes (editor: Bratz Super Babyz). This Nintendo DS video game is based on the DVD movie of the same name. THQ does girl gaming some justice with this one. Quite a few people need to be helped in each of the worlds, and there are some mini games that need to be beaten as well. Bratz Super Babyz has a very engaging storyline for those trained in reading English. I have not had a lot of exposure to the Bratz line up, since my niece never really got into them.
The visuals in Bratz Super Babyz are some good, and some okay. There are plenty of good girl colors used (i.e. pink, and purple), but some of the details leave a little to be desired. This is the Nintendo DS so I was not expecting Bratz Super Babyz to be of the same quality as a DVD movie. The camera rotation is a pure set behind, not a rotation. I would have liked to be able to rotate the camera around. In a few places I could get objects to completely block my view. There are a couple of levels where rubber duckies are thrown at misbehaving characters. That is as violent as Bratz Super Babyz gets.
I absolutely love the music in Bratz Super Babyz. There are full length songs found in here, that are very catchy. My hubby even expressed a like for the song played after the game is beaten. There was no offensive language I recall in this one, even from the bad guys.
Each level in Bratz Super Babyz has a story goal, and so many gems to collect. The story can be taken care of without collecting all the gems. This is one replay aspect as well as all of the unlockable content. For a girl’s game that amount is quite impressive. There are mini games that can be replayed, and your daughter may have fun with them.
Most of Bratz Super Babyz is done in 3D adventure exploration where people, or animals are being helped. There are some over head levels where the player must explore a map and try to find their way out. The food fight in the last world is one of the more interesting uses of the Nintendo DS. Certain special powers involve blowing or shouting into the microphone. The way THQ has the DS used is impressive to me.
Bratz Super Babyz shows
that games geared towards girls have come a long way. The occasional
camera issue is light, as is the slight angle movement (editor: does not
quite move in a straight line). I would like to see some sequels to
Bratz Super Babyz on the Nintendo DS. This game is safe for the entire
family, however a basic reading ability is needed. The over head levels
are a little more challenging, so parents may need to assist their
daughters. It was my pleasure to play Bratz Super Babyz on the DS.
