Madden NFL 07
SCORE: 94
Madden has been the king of the video game football for quite some
time now. There may have been some contenders in the past, but no one
comes close to EA Sports now. Electronic Arts doesn’t sit on their
laurels though, they spend each new year to improve the game. Madden NFL
07 the key feature was the running game. Spectacular running back Shaun
Alexander of the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks showcases this years box
art. The lead blocker controls have been drastically improved to add
some serious strategy (once the player gets used to it). EA Sports also
added some all new highlight sticks to help the runners break tackles,
and they match the moves of the real NFL players. One can’t forget T.O.
is now on the Dallas Cowboys. The Playstation Portable also includes
connectivity to the Playstation 2 version, in the way of being able to
transfer an entire season in Franchise mode from the PS2 to the PSP.
After playing the Nintendo DS version of Madden NFL 07, I honestly
was not expecting a lot in the graphical department. Boy was I shocked
when I played my first pre-season game with the super Seattle Seahawks.
The graphics are stunning on such a small little screen. The player
models are huge, and all of the players look really good. The graphics
are bright and colorful (but then football stadiums are as well). Even
the extra large linemen looked bigger than say a kicker. The menu
screens have players from the team being played, and they look even
better. The polish in the graphical department is extremely evident.
There are images of tackling, and if the game of football bothers you,
so will this game. I am also a little unhappy that well known Christians
like Shaun Alexander did not graphics of him praying in the end zone, or
pointing to heaven (at least I did not run across them).
I took some extra time this year to analyze the music in Madden NFL.
There were quite a few lyrics that would be troublesome, to offensive to
families. On the plus side though the music can be completely turned
off, or specific songs. The sounds of a football game, match real
football (take it from someone who has played).
The replay value in Madden NFL 07 make this purchase worth your hard
earned dollars. Season after season can be played, all of the different
teams can be played, etc. There are some fun little mini games included,
and the connectivity to the PS2 only adds to the replay.
Madden NFL 07 handles like a dream on the Sony Playstation Portable,
especially the kicking. The designs of the stadiums, mini games, and
entire feel of the game is fun in this reviewers humble opinion. The
really nice thing about a video game version is no real people get hurt,
and a lot about the game of football can be learned. The strategy the
player uses also must be picked with the 40 second clock in mind as
well.
In my humble opinion this game is safe for the entire family. The violence in football is never over the top, and players stop after the tackle. It my was my pleasure to play, and review this game. I will recommend this game to my pastor, and anyone else who will listen about a good video game on the Sony Playstation Portable. I am always interested to see what improvements EA Sports will give us next year. - Paul
