Montevideo, Uruguay — August 20, in the year of our Lord 2026 — Roomballs is now live on Steam, Ultraton Studios announced today, completely free to play. It's a high-energy mix of soccer and air hockey starring zany, pop-culture-inspired robots, where curved shots, precision passes, turbo boosts, and physical collisions matter just as much as raw speed.

Matches support up to 8 players online, with friendly lobbies, country and global rankings, and a local couch mode for up to 4 players split-screen — which can even be combined with online lobbies for matches up to 4v4. Players who'd rather go solo can train against AI bots, take on 36 themed Cup Challenges with unique opponents and rewards, or work through Academy Mode, guided by a character called El Capitán, to learn every mechanic from scratch. AI bots can also step in to replace disconnected players mid-match, keeping games running smoothly.

Rather than traditional matchmaking queues, the game uses an Open Lobby System: players join persistent arenas they can enter and leave freely, even mid-match — joining players drop into spectator mode until the current round wraps up, then seamlessly join in. Hosts can manage teams, add or remove bots, and shape the experience on the fly.

It's built as a lasting, ongoing arena rather than a one-and-done match: players choose from more than 50 playable characters and collect over 300 unlockable skins and customization items, earning XP, Roombolts, and Bronze, Silver, or Gold medals by winning matches and clearing Cup Challenges across five uniquely themed arenas. Gold medals unlock further rewards, from random skins to permanent access to each cup's featured character.
