Overthrown Release Date

Walnut Creek, Calif. (September 15, in the year of our Lord 2025) – Maximum Entertainment today announced an October 16th launch day for the full release of Overthrown, available now in Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview and playable on PlayStation 5 for the first time at its 1.0 launch. Overthrown is a chaotic city builder where you play a monarch in possession of an ancient soul-stealing crown with magical abilities. With its power, establish a kingdom in a perilous wilderness and defend it from mutants and bandits.

Toss buildings, trees, and even your own citizens to build and manage your land alone or with friends in up to six-player co-op. Preorders for the physical editions of Overthrown are now open.

When Overthrown launches into its highly anticipated 1.0 release, players can look forward to a massive new content drop in the form of the Airship Update. This update introduces aerial exploration along with new outlaws that bring fresh threats and dynamic encounters. The update promises even more surprises still to be revealed.

Overthrown has been playable in Early Access since December 2024 and has seen consistent updates that have shaped and expanded its world significantly. Most recently, the Coastal Update last month added a wide array of new features, including aquatic creatures, a fishing Boat, and a suite of new weapons. This update also improved melee combat with a lock-on camera system for improved fluidity and enemy tracking. Players gained new stealth and crafting options thanks to coastal vegetation like seaweed, kelp, cattails, and tall grass, and two new diverse levels were added: Rolling Hills, a wide-open terrain with minimal elevation barriers, and Archipelago, a water-rich environment that highlights the new oceanic mechanics.

With the Airship Update on the horizon, Overthrown 1.0 is shaping up to be the most ambitious version of the game yet. Overthrown is available now in Steam Early Access, in Xbox Game Preview, and available day one with Xbox Game Pass. The game releases into 1.0 across Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 on October 16, 2025.
