Odokonia Releases
Boulder, CO –February 26, in the year of our Lord 2024–
Independent developer HexTech Studios has announced that Odokonia, a
free-to-play turn-based base builder strategy game, is now available
on Android and iOS.
Conquer the generated world with Odokonia, a strategy game where
players simultaneously submit their moves and battle it out in a
battlefield ballet. You’ve already played and loved classic RTS
games on PC, now experience a reimagining of the genre from a
mobile-first, turn-based perspective that lets you play at your own
pace and savour the strategic decisions in ways that were previously
impossible.
You won’t find a game like this coming from the big, AAA studios
because they can’t afford to take the risks that this independent
developer is taking with this title. We’re talking about innovative
features such as:
Action playback grouping: Even though the moves happen one by one,
we play them back to you using innovative grouping techniques (where
it makes sense to do so). This makes the game very easy and
intuitive to play, and also makes seeing what happened in the last
round fast and exciting.
Turn-based combos: Ordering one action per turn not enough for you?
We got you covered! Each unit can perform its own action, and when
those actions intermix with the actions of other units, you can
perform time-saving combos! Our tutorial will walk you through some
basic ones, but there are many more for you to discover!
Units can perform actions while inside transport ships!? That’s
right, you can build a turret on a single hex island off the side of
a boat or board an enemy island like a pirate with thumpers flying
out of boats. Just be careful because if they sink the boat all your
units inside it die a miserable watery death!
You haven’t experienced fog of war like this before. Because our
maps are procedurally generated, you don’t even know what the full
map looks like, or where you are on it when you start. Additionally,
every single hex cell has a different height, which leads to much
more complex, varied battles where victory and defeat is often
decided by a high-ground advantage. But don’t worry, if you’re
clever you might find out how useful spider swarmers are for scaling
dark, scary mountains.
Did we mention this game is fully multiplayer enabled!? Talk smack
to your opponents with in-game chat and finally prove to the world
that when it comes to hex based grids, you are the king.
Q: “But I don’t have time to play another game. I have kids, I have
responsibilities, work is eating my life”
A: This game was literally made for working-class heroes like you! I
made this game because I missed having long gaming sessions with
friends, and I can’t afford to spend hours in a dark room playing
video games anymore. But that doesn’t mean we have to give up! We
now have Odokonia. We can play complex, multiplayer strategy games
on our phones while we’re going to the bathroom. And we can put them
away and pick them up whenever we feel like it.
Q: “Free to play, sure, but what’s the catch? It’s not really free”
A: Great question! Players have two different ways to play the game
while also supporting future development:
Ad supported - The game is free to play, but every now and again
we’ll make you watch an ad. This is the default setting for players,
and it’s a proven model because it works for YouTube. You don’t mind
watching an ad every now and again on YouTube, right? So why
shouldn’t this also be the future of gaming?
Pay to remove ads - For a measly $1 per month, you can play this
game completely ad free. I don’t have ads or IAP interwoven
everywhere into the game like most of these hellscape mobile games.
I just want to create a fun game and be able to fund future
development, that’s it.
New players also start with a free trial in single-player which
should last for almost an entire game, so you can make sure that you
actually like the game first before you spend any money (or watch
any ads).
