Rise of the Merchants Release Date

Family Friendly Gaming News

Passau, September 30, in the year of our Lord 2026; Rise of the Merchants will launch into Steam Early Access on October 29, 2026, giving players the chance to turn a small medieval settlement into a thriving trading empire. Players won’t have to wait that long to get started, though: a playable demo arrives on Steam at the end of next week.

Developer Black Duke Games has also released a new video focusing on one of the central parts of Rise of the Merchants: building and shaping the settlement at the heart of your growing trade network.

From Small Village to Trading Town

Every merchant has to start somewhere. In Rise of the Merchants, that means helping a small settlement get back on its feet and gradually turning it into a thriving center of production and trade.

Players decide where buildings are placed and how their settlement develops, with a wide range of structures forming the backbone of increasingly complex production chains and trading operations.

But settlements are not simply functional. Players can also give their town its own look by customizing elements such as roofs, half-timbering, plaster, wood and walls, making each settlement visibly different from the next.

And that difference carries over into the persistent online world. Zoom out from the settlement view and your town appears on the world map exactly as you have built it. Other players can see it too, and even visit your settlement to take a closer look.

The new video offers a glimpse at the range of buildings already available and how a modest medieval village can gradually grow into something much more ambitious.
Build, Trade and Find Your Own Way to the Top

Beyond settlement building, Rise of the Merchants combines economic simulation, production, politics and trade in a persistent online world.

Players establish production chains, move goods between settlements and trade with NPCs and other players, while distance, terrain and bandits can turn an attractive deal into a risky undertaking.

Economic success is not the only route to influence. Political offices, negotiations and alliances can open other doors, while optional PvP allows particularly ambitious merchants to interfere with their rivals’ businesses.

Rise of the Merchants launches into Steam Early Access on October 29, 2026. A free playable demo will be available at the end of next week.
