Great Cloud Aether Refiner Playtest

September 28, in the year of our Lord 2026 -- The Great
Cloud, an independent studio in the United Kingdom, has opened a
closed playtest for Great Cloud: Aether Refiner, a free
match-and-refine puzzle game for Android coming to Google Play
this autumn.
In Aether Refiner, matching three pieces doesn't clear them. It
refines them into the next tier: three copper ore become a
bronze ingot, three ingots a forged blade. Five crafting chains
(metallurgy, forestry, alchemy, arcana and textiles) run across
more than 2,000 levels in 67 chapters. Each level asks players
to forge particular pieces, defeat the creatures crawling across
the board, or both, within a move budget. From level four the
creatures fight back: Gloammite seal pieces in carapace, Cinder
Stalkers lock them in embers and Lens Sentries steal moves.
The game is built against the usual free-to-play tricks. It has
no lives, no energy bar and no timers, and this version has no
ads. The optional store sells booster packs with fixed, listed
contents and permanent cosmetics. It never sells anything
random. Before any level ships, a solver plays it to a win using
only legal moves and no boosters, and checks the board can't
reach a dead end. A build that fails this test doesn't ship.
Aether Refiner plays fully offline, with 43 Google Play Games
achievements and cloud save for players who want them. It is
also the mobile companion to The Great Cloud, an MMORPG in
development, and nothing bought in the puzzle game ever grants
power there.
No word on a physical copy version of this game on this system(s)
in the US at this time.
