Insider Advice for PR and Marketing

Cordova, TN; March 21, in the year of our Lord 2022 -- Family Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is continuing to be the voice of diversity in the gaming media, and media at large. I love giving a different perspective, and showing the video game industry from a different angle. The competition in PR and Marketing used to be fierce. I have noticed over the last five years a real laziness from many in PR and Marketing. There are all these people in PR and Marketing that just expect us to publish whatever garbage they send to us. At times there are stories that sell themselves. I gave a glimpse into the insight in the FFG Original opinion piece: “Sell Me On It.” A new game in the Animal Crossing, Bible Game, Sonic, Mario, Knack, or other franchise would immediately grab our attention. The same goes for most kids games. Those do not come around every single day.

If the person in PR and Marketing sends us something with a lot of profanity we are going to quickly delete it. If they tell us the game is horror, and dark we are most likely going to move on. Porn games are ones we immediately delete as well. I find it funny when these people in PR and Marketing want to check in on the status of publishing something that is not family friendly. That is why our legal page now has a fee for “checking in.” It is a waste of our precious limited time to explain to them what they are too lazy to notice. Properly target in the first place. Is that really that difficult? Do not check in on something we would not touch with a ten foot pole. I have even accidently sent the wrong link to some people in PR and Marketing and they thanked me for the coverage. Maybe you should click on the link and notice we did not publish your press release but sent you to our Advertise page instead. If you cannot be bothered to click on the link we provided then you have no business being in PR and Marketing. Have some professionalism.

At times there are two similar stories and we have the bandwidth to only publish one. There are a lot of factors that go into deciding. Did you just send the same press release within the last two weeks? Did you motivate us in any way to help you out? Is there any swag coming as a part of this campaign? Will you send us more press releases expecting all we will do is make you money and neglect everyone else? Do you care about helping us continue to exist with advertisements and sponsorships? Do they have a history of providing reviewable copies? How we are treated matters. There are plenty of times I groan when certain PR firms send things over because they are greedy, heavy moochers who are selfish and self absorbed. They do not motivate me to make them money. Even if the game they are representing is interesting. There are certain PR firms that lie constantly and we hate having anything to do with them.

Does the PR firm and/or person have a history of being an ostrich sticking their head in the sand when they hear something they don’t like? I understand there are few gaming media outlets with any real investigative journalism. When we ask fair questions that do not go along with the company propaganda then have the professionalism to answer instead of pretend you never got the questions. I have had people from PR and Marketing come to me and want me to publish some story for their client. Well their client dodged questions many years ago. My response was to point those people to those questions. Want anything from me, then answer these questions first. They thought they would be cute and pretend they did not get the response. So I forwarded to them and responded with the same answer the second time they tried to get their way. They never got what they wanted from us. Their cowardice cost them an opportunity. The next time it happens my response will be the same. They face the music on fair investigative journalism questions or they don’t get any positive coverage. Their past choices impact their future. I am not here to regurgitate their propaganda and lies.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

God bless,
Paul Bury
