Hype and Communication

Cordova, TN; April 22, in the year of our Lord 2019 – Family Friendly Gaming the industry leader in covering the family friendly video games is exploring an interesting connected topic. What is this connected topic? It is hype and communication. As I write this Fornite and Apex Legends are trading first place on Twitch in terms of game being streamed the most. Fortnite is being updated weekly. Apex Legends is being updated less often. Overwatch is released at an even worse frequency. Does how often a game update impact how well it is doing within the community? Less changes means gamers get bored much quicker. That is one of the reasons so many gamers left Fortnite for Apex Legends. They had seen all they could see in a map and wanted something new.

Communication is another issue. Hype is connected to this. Apex Legends was released all of a sudden and surprised a great many gamers. Overwatch had quite a bit of hype surrounding it, and it eventually fell pretty flat. Fortnite has hype. Fortnite is also advertised all of the place. Sadly they are not advertising on the Family Friendly Gaming website at this time. After we have spent so much money giving them so much press. They could show how thankful they are. Apex Legends came out with little advertising, and no hype. It just came out. Could that contribute to its overwhelming success? What do you think?

We have written before about the issues with companies over-hyping their games. When they set themselves up on that high horse, they are preparing themselves for a longer fall. Don’t you think Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment were excited about Apex Legends? Don’t you think they were confident in its success? Yet they decided to keep it on the down low. Is this a new PR and Marketing strategy? Should we call it less is more? It is extremely surprising they took on Fortnite in this fashion. They did come up with some cool new innovations. I love how team mates can restore us after we die in the game. Epic Games has copied that idea with the revive van in Fortnite.

There are plenty of factors that go into the success of any franchise. There was no hype and no communications on Apex Legends and it is doing well. Overwatch had lots of hype and now no communications and it flounders around. Fortnite has lots of hype and lots of communications and it has been the bench mark for all other battle royale video games. I did not even analyze PUBG because of all the glitches. What do you think the recipe for success is? Different games have gotten there with different strategies.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.

God bless,
