I Miss Playing From Disc
Cordova, TN; January 25, in the year of our Lord 2016--Family
Friendly Gaming, the industry leader in covering the family
friendly video games is talking about a video game trend that
needs to return. How many of ya’ll are sick and tired of waiting
insanely long amounts of time while a video game installs? Did
you know that back in the day video games did not install to a
hard drive? In fact you played them from the disc or cartridge.
Loading times are now worse and we were promised they would be
better after installing on a hard drive. I think it has more to
do with trying to stop video game piracy than creating a
convenience to the gamers and consumers. Do you think I am
right? Do you think I am wrong?

I miss the days of Plug N Play. Pop in a disc, or a cartridge
and it played. None of this lame digital downloading that costs
consumers so much money. What you had you could physically
touch. Admire the art work on the disc. Read the instructions
card, look at the art in a little booklet. It felt like we got
something for the money we spent. Not that we had purchased a
disposable video game that was meaningless when we finished
playing it. The system immediately booted up with the game you
put inside it. None of these massive, annoying, and hard to
traverse menu screens to find your game. It was simple. It was
easy. It was fun. It was the way video games are supposed to be.

Yes it could be annoying while the disc spun. It could be tiring
to wait for another screen or area to load – Final Fantasy VII I
am looking right at you. But it was better than what we have
today. It was better than waiting hours for insanely huge games
to install. There was none of this going into the memory of a
system and having to delete games not being played because there
is only so much space. Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360,
Xbox One, and Wii U I am looking right at you. There was a
quicker and more instant gratification from the games and the
systems. No wonder retro video games are taking off so well –
people are sick and tired of the lame new systems. Why should we
have to constantly manage the memory of a system? Or even worse
spend more money on another device that will fill up in half a
				year to a year.

I miss playing from a disc.

				God bless,
