Cartoon Network Racing

Games like Mario Kart come out every couple of years, so those who are into kart racing need to look at clones. Make no bones about it, Cartoon Network Racing is a Mario Kart clone. It is the best Mario Kart clone I have ever played though. For those unfamiliar with Mario Kart, or kart racing; it is a racing game that is rather light hearted with cartoonish styled attacks allowed. A whole bevy of cartoon network characters are competing in some of the strangest karts I have ever seen (i.e. a bath tub). The race tracks generally seem a little longer in Cartoon Network Racing than those in other Kart racing games. The characters from Cartoon Network are also an interesting line up of characters.

Cartoon Network Racing has some really bright and colorful graphics. Many of the colors are very loud, and pop out in contrast from each other. The details are decent, but some of the backgrounds are visibly 2D. The character models of the racers are decent, and the offensive/defensive power ups are all animated in a good little manner. There are some images that were a little eye opening (in a shocking manner) for me like the Booger trophy. They were few and far between though.

The sounds are usually crisp and clear in Cartoon Network Racing. The sounds work well, especially the celebrations when a fellow racer finds an oil slick left (for example). There are not a lot of sound bytes per character, but what is there is not over used. The music is okay, and never got to the point of being annoying.

The amount of unlockable, and purchasable content is astounding to me. The tracks are fun to race, and the four different speed settings really adds some fantastic replay value to Cartoon Network Racing. This game can be played wirelessly with friends (or those waiting in line with you for a Nintendo Wii), family, or class mates so more than one person can enjoy this game at a time. In my estimation this game is worth your hard earned dollars. Especially if you are looking for a good kart racer.

Cartoon Network Racing handles really well in almost every instance. There are a few spots where it is too easy to get stuck, and then the player has to go into reverse. The design of the courses, and the shortcuts on each race is very nice indeed. I had a lot of fun playing this game.

When the editor in chief asked me to play, and review this game I was a little skeptical that The Game Factory could pull it off. Well they proved it to me, and I am letting the readers of Family Friendly Gaming know that. Cartoon Network Racing teaches concentration, being first, and getting to the top by any means necessary. I also learned that if I am smaller than another racer, running into them hurt me. It was my pleasure to play and review this game. I found it to be a light hearted little kart racing game that needs a sequel to, especially if there is a graphical upgrade. The Game Factory has an interesting take to the kart racing genre that works really good.
