Pocket Kingdom

Family Friendly Gaming was emailed a digital downloadable code of Pocket Kingdom on Steam. I was unable to find a physical copy of Pocket Kingdom on Steam. I found an N-Gage game called Pocket Kingdom Own the World. That is actually a completely different game than Pocket Kingdom on Steam. What is sad is the N-Gage game actually looks a bit better.

Pocket Kingdom is one ugly looking game. I am being as nice as I can. We can call it indie all we want, but the truth is Pocket Kingdom does not look great. Thankfully Pocket Kingdom makes up for it in other ways. The music is cool in Pocket Kingdom. I liked listening to it while walking around the rooms in Pocket Kingdom. Pocket Kingdom is part exploration and part puzzle.

I thought of so many different games whiles I was playing Pocket Kingdom. Metroid, Castlevania, Mario and others came up while I played Pocket Kingdom on the PC. In fact there are jokes and nods to other franchises in Pocket Kingdom. We solve the puzzles in the rooms, and then find items (like keys) to open new areas. There are a few different items that will unlock the paths.

Pocket Kingdom can be played with the mouse and keyboard, or with a controller. I found the controller method worked better. It can be very clunky to play Pocket Kingdom with a keyboard. There are false gods, magic, strange religious beliefs and more in Pocket Kingdom. There is also profanity. I was shocked to see such strong and offensive language in Pocket Kingdom. I also found references to alcohol in this downloadable only PC video game.

I noticed something about Pocket Kingdom. It has charm. The level layout is pretty good. The map can be handy in spots. I liked solving puzzles and unlocking new areas. I wish Pocket Kingdom had left the offensive content out. Family Friendly Gaming Universe will be offended by a great majority of Pocket Kingdom. I hate to see games shoot themselves in the foot like this.
