Discovery

I normally absolutely despise Minecraft clones. Since Nintendo flopped so long with the official Minecraft game on the Wii U, they left the door open to games like Discovery on the Wii U. This downloadable only home console video game is the Creative Mode of Minecraft only. No Survival in Discovery. Which means this Wii U game is much more approachable to casual gamers.

Creative Mode is where you can create whatever you want. Discovery has a huge game play area with multiple different biomes. I calculated the game play area to be 6124 x 4000. Think you can make some nice castles, statues, monuments, and more in Discovery? This is probably why the loading time seemed long in Discovery. It has to load a lot for families to enjoy.

Discovery looks a bit better than Minecraft. We create animals by throwing out eggs. Yes, sheep and other animals spawn from eggs in Discovery. It was one of the strangest things I have ever seen in a video game. There are 144 different place-able blocks in Discovery. There are only four mobs (or animals) that you can spawn into this game. I like the angled blocks in Discovery.

I like being able to see my feet in Discovery. I like the shadows, and the sun glare. Going under water and looking up felt weird to me. The music is nice in Discovery. It feels like listening to an orchestra to me. The players inventory consists of ten items. They can be easily swapped by going into the menu screens. I did not find off screen play in Discovery. The Wii U Gamepad shows the map.

Two family members can play cooperatively in Discovery. There are day and night cycles in Discovery. I ran into a few glitches while playing Discovery. For example I blew some blocks up with dynamite, and then they became clear and I could see through the world. This is by no means a deal breaker for me. Just something I noticed while playing Discovery on the Wii U.
