My Horse 3D – Best Friends was provided to Family Friendly Gaming in
the form of a downloadable code on the Nintendo 3DS. The 3D effects are
stellar in My Horse 3D – Best Friends, and the music is exceptional. The
graphics on the horse races (with jumping) is way better than going
around the farm. The mini games in My Horse 3D – Best Friends where we
take care of the horses look great too.
I do have a few quibbles with My Horse 3D – Best Friends on the Nintendo
3DS. Do not play the jumping courses in 3D. Family members must turn the
3DS to take turns with the horse. This messes up the graphics when it is
in 3D. It goes back to that problem with gyroscope and 3D do not work
together since our eyes must have a direct line with the image to stay
in correct 3D. Otherwise we get two images, and usually a headache.
Independent Arts has gotten better with explaining what to do in their
games. There are goals that player can read about. Unfortunately there
is some trial and error with how to do tasks in My Horse 3D – Best
Friends. The interactions in My Horse 3D – Best Friends are part button
based, and part touch screen based. I would initiate a window with the
'A' button and then need to tap the selection on the screen (since the
'A' button did not work on that screen). It was a little thing, but
noticeable.
I love how My Horse 3D – Best Friends lets families jump right into
riding a horse, or they can go into the story and get the complete horse
care experience. This means My Horse 3D – Best Friends is accessible to
a wider audience. The $4.99 price tag will also help My Horse 3D – Best
Friends reach more families. I believe this is a very competitive price
for this downloadable only hand held video game.
Early on My Horse 3D – Best Friends felt like a Harvest Moon game. There
was little to do, and I went to bed early. Later on there was plenty to
do in My Horse 3D – Best Friends, and I had trouble doing all of it in
just one day. If you can get into My Horse 3D – Best Friends there is a
deep amount of game play. Note you will need to do some of the same mini
games multiple times. Horses have to be kept clean, and fed.
