Fairune

Family Friendly Gaming advises a variety of video game developers. One of the things we have told them is to go retro when they do not have the tools to compete with the latest, and greatest looking games. Fairune does just that. We have a game that looks older, and plays older.

How old does Fairune play? Anyone out there in Family Friendly Gaming Nation remember Ys? Players did not swing their sword in Ys, instead they ran into the enemies with their sword drawn. Sort of like jousting, or ramming into them. Your level versus the level of the monster determined who got hurt, and how bad.

Fairune also reminds me of the original Legend of Zelda game. We have secret passages, switches, and need to find objects to move. Enemies respawn when you return to a screen in Fairune as well. So if you are a nostalgic role playing gamer then you will get into Fairune.

There is another piece of history related to Fairune that I need to mention. Fairune is actually a port to the Nintendo 3DS. It was an app first. Thanks to Nintendo, and this little machine families do not need to worry about in-app purchases. Fairune on the 3DS has no in-app purchases. Buy it, download it, and play to your hearts content.

Fairune has small not that great graphics. The music is good. The gameplay takes a bit to get used to. You will also have to figure out what to do, and where to do it. The hints in Fairune are far from helpful. There are walkthroughs for the app online in case you get really stuck.
