Up In Flames

Up In Flames starts with a little Bubble Bobble looking dinosaur watching television. He sees his fellow dragons are being captured and enslaved. He rushes out to use his fire breath to free them from their oppressors. The best part of that scene to me is when he flees the television set.

What kind of a game is Up In Flames? A lot like Angry Birds. There is one important distinction though. The fire will spread to all adjacent pieces of wood. Meaning I may be off the mark to free a dragon, but if I wait for the fire - he shall be set free. Or maybe it is she shall be set free in this game. I was not clear on the gender of many of these dragons.

In the seventy-five levels of Up In Flames the main character spits out a fireball that will bounce around a few times. It can bounce off ceilings and the back wall. This tactic will be needed to complete the levels. All of the foxes must be destroyed to beat a level as well.

It was disturbing to see these poor little critters burned to a black crisp. Then the ashes would fall down as the dragons celebrated. The music and special effect sounds in Up In Flames are pleasant. Unless you use up all of your fireballs and do not complete the level.

There are a variety of different objectives that need to be completed in each level. Up In Flames starts out easy enough, but the difficulty can be cranked up in later levels. Stars are earned in each level. As a general rule the less fireballs you use, the more stars you will receive.

Up In Flames has a nice array of different game play mechanics. There are explosive devices, dragons that re-spit the fireball, pads that bounce fireballs, and more. Patience can pay off in Up In Flames in certain levels. As well as using the launch guide before you send the fireball out into the world. Precisions usually works better in Up In Flames than brute force.
