Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14
SCORE: 91
As we enter into spring many turn their
eyes to the golf course. This also brings the latest iteration of video
game golf from EA Sports - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14. This is the first
year all four golf majors are in the franchise. They are the Masters
Tournament, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA
Championship.
Legends make their entrance in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14. We get to go all
the way back into the 1800s and play in some fantastic black and white.
To be technical it looks more white and brown to me. But who is
quibbling. Going back in time and seeing how things looked back then is
a real treat.
It is apparent that EA Sports spent time on the faces of the players.
They look very realistic. All the way down to the expressions on their
faces. They animate like real golfers, and the fans have little
animations that are neat too. They are leaning when the ball needs
to lean a certain way, clapping, and acting like real spectators.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 does not stop with the graphics in terms of
realism. The fans will also let out a slight groan when a putt is
missed. Which by the way is something I was exceedingly proficient at.
The announcers put on a clinic and add to the realism as well. I
especially liked hearing: "the man upstairs made a beautiful day today."
Or something along those lines.
I tested the Xbox 360 version which means I was able to play Tiger Woods
PGA Tour 14 on Kinect. There is no better way to play this home console
golf game than on the Kinect. I did great playing it on Kinect. Some of
the movements needed for certain things felt awkward at first, but the
golfing action, and spinning was easy on Kinect.
Playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 with the controller is another story. I
ran into problem after problem playing this sports game with the
controller. I could not keep my line straight, putts missed and more. I
checked some putts and they were perfectly lined up. I hit the amount of
power, and it came up way short, or went right past the hole. That putt
guide only lets you see it once. So you have to guess from there - which
was another issue I had. Putting is difficult in Tiger Woods PGA Tour
14, and rarely makes sense when you miss.
Online gamers are going to have a field day with Tiger Woods PGA Tour
14. Country clubs can now house one hundred members. So you and
ninety-nine of your closest golfing buddies can have your own online
country club. Night golf has been added as well as current golfing
events. You are allowed to duplicate them if you so choose.
Ladies are brought into the mix in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14. The LGPA has
been added to this franchise. Career mode should keep most video game
golfers busy for some time. The new swing styles will take some getting
used to. But once you find one you like you should be off to the races.
My end conclusion is Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 is a fun game. It takes
hours of practice to get certain things down, and others work like a
charm. There are tons of modes, features, and options. Honoring the past
greats is a really neat thing, and I hope to see EA Sports continue it
in the future. I am thankful I was allowed to play and review Tiger
Woods PGA Tour 14.
