The Bridge
SCORE: 81
The Bridge is an Indie game that has
amassed a long list of awards from a variety of different independent
challenges and shows. And it has entered the Family Friendly Gaming
Nation. This independent game may very well be one of the most artistic
games to ever come to me.
The Bridge is a black and white game. Sort of like Isaac Newton meets M.
C. Escher. The puzzle games in this gravity twister can be intense. At
times when I was playing The Bridge I did not have a clue how to solve
it. So I would rotate the level around to see what happened.
I am not ashamed to admit that I lucked into solutions more often than
not in The Bridge. I am far from being dumb. I am also not at the genius
level of some others here at Family Friendly Gaming. The Bridge made me
look at this labor of love in new and different ways.
The music in The Bridge is as artistic and moody as the black and white
graphics. At times it felt a little bit creepy to me. It helps set the
tone as I tried to figure out how to get that little guy to the door
without getting him squashed. Or how to get that key down to my little
guy.
The Bridge has one really neat game play mechanic. What is it? The space
bar. I spent more time holding down the space bar in The Bridge than
anything else. Why? The space bar rewinds time in this Personal Computer
(PC) game. Make a mistake, all you have to do is rewind back to where
you think you can take a different path.
The Bridge is an experience to say the very least. I learned to rotate
the world so my guy was walking along the ceiling. The Bridge helped me
think about the world in different ways. Changing gravity while going
through complex levels does not sound like fun on paper, but I became
addicted very quickly.
