SlugTerra Return of the Shane Gang
SCORE: 78
SlugTerra Return of the Shane Gang on DVD
is my first introduction into the Slugterra franchise. It is
interesting, and different. At the same time it is easy to compare it to
other franchises. Eli Shane goes down to follow his father's footsteps
by going deep down into the earth. He becomes a slugslinger in the
ongoing battle against Mr. Black.
SlugTerra Return of the Shane Gang is set deep in the earth. The people
there do not know about the surface, and that is one of the many secrets
Eli must keep. He also does not know the way back home. So in many ways
it is a one way trip for him - at least for now.
The five episodes on SlugTerra Return of the Shane Gang are The World
Beneath Our Feet Part 1, The World Beneath Our Feet Part 2, The Trade,
The Slug Out, and Deadweed. They are a great introduction to the
television show. The bonus features are An Intro to Slugterra, and
Animated Slugisodes.
Characters in SlugTerra Return of the Shane Gang have blasters. These
guns shoot the slugs out. When a slug reached one hundred miles per hour
they transform into these powerful beasts with some form of an attack.
There are slugs with fire power, ice power, water power, webs, etc. You
might be thinking of Pokemon in this instance.
Where SlugTerra Return of the Shane Gang differs is in the duels or
battles. Characters can reload and shoot multiple slugs at once.
Multiple characters can work together by shooting their slugs around the
same time. All of this deepens the strategy of the duels.
Another important difference in SlugTerra Return of the Shane Gang is
humans are the targets. Characters are trying to knock out their
opponent with their slugs. So the slugs are more like exotic ammunition.
Eli Shane treats them with respect, and as if they are friends. I am
sure you have seen that same concept used in other similar franchises.
One thing that bothers me about SlugTerra Return of the Shane Gang is
Eli leaves his caregiver alone. He has no plan on returning home in the
five episodes on this disc. Someone was caring for him after his father
disappeared. Also at the age of fifteen he is a bit young to go off
battling adults in the underworld.
