SimCity

It has been a long time since PC gamers have been treated to SimCity. Well the wait is over, and right now it is receiving a mixed response. New players start out playing a tutorial. This town has been mismanaged horribly. It is up to you to fix all of the problems. Along the way players learn how to play.

Once the tutorial is complete, players can join an existing online city or create their own. There are multiple places a city can be built in each of the eight different locations. Then it is about building roads, zoning districts, and growing your city. Along the way we have to keep our citizens happy.

There are a neat array of buildings that can be built and upgraded. Land values can be increased, taxes can be raised and lowered. People move in, industry is created, power plants are built, and more. We have to worry about things like air quality and the happiness of the citizenry.

I am not fond of SimCity being online only. I wish it could be played offline too. I like most aspects of SimCity. The one exception is the online only mode. I do not like being forced into social gaming as the only choice. Maybe in an update or a sequel this will be fixed.

I love all of the helpful hints and thought bubbles that are in SimCity. They assisted me in plotting out how my town would be created. The sewage dump-off points are one of the most unpleasant parts of SimCity. That is until you run into disasters and some of the mild violence.

My overall reactions to SimCity are positive. It is not everything I was hoping it would be. It still has room for growth, development and improvement. SimCity is a good looking, and good sounding city simulator with plenty of things to do. I look forward to what EA does with this franchise going forward.
