Rock Runners

Rock Runners is the most console like experience I have ever played on the iPhone/iPod Touch platform. We start on a world map that is a form of a grid. We pick which adjacent tile we will try to move to. Then we play a level. If we complete it without dying them we can make a new choice from that tile.

So what is the point in Rock Runners? We need to work our way to our plane. Which is of course on the far side of the map. We also need to find fuel in certain levels to power the plane. Other levels need keys to unlock them. Certain levels in Rock Runners are more difficult than others. They have a warning sign on the bottom of the tile.

The levels we play in Rock Runners are 2D side scrolling runners. We are constantly in motion. We have one command in Rock Runners - the jump. We can jump over obstacles. There is one really neat feature in Rock Runners - restart. If we miss a jump we go into a portal. This portal will drop us back a bit so we can retry what we just missed. It hurts the time on a level but a wonderful feature to keep the game moving.

Rock Runners requires players to do everything possible to avoid violence. We jump over enemies, and obstacles. We never hurt them. We work our way strategically through the map based on our own skills. In the levels we collect gems. There is a store in Rock Runners that lets us use these gems. There are a wide array of power ups that can be purchased, and recharged.

I really, really like Rock Runners. Ya'll know me, I am difficult to please in a video game. Partially because I have played so many, and I have seen what works. My only complaint against Rock Runners is parts of levels repeat. I mean we see and do the same thing to get through portions of levels. The different worlds shake this up thankfully.

How many levels you play in Rock Runners are really up to you. You can try for the most direct path to your plane or you can take the scenic route. To me this is one of the things that makes Rock Runners special - it gives you options. It is also non-violent, and fun. I must warn you that Rock Runners can be addicting. Especially when trying to beat a difficult level.
