Life of Pixel

So many video games pay homage to games from the past. Few video games incorporate the older games, and fewer still recognize older game systems from the past. Especially if some of those games were from their competitors. Life of Pixel is very unique in this, and it is great to see.

A little green pixel wants more out of his life. So he goes on a quest through all kinds of different retro machines. Playing this PS Vita game is like taking a walk through video game history. Hardcore gamers will want to find every single referenced game. Casual gamers will enjoy the challenging levels.

Life of Pixel can be a difficult game. There are blind jumps that will kill you easily the first time. Gravity shifting where you fall blinding into spikes, water, enemies, or other hazards. Levels are almost always short so you will learn from your mistakes and find a way to survive the next time. Or maybe ten tries later. Or more - depending on your skill.

The coolest thing about Life of Pixel is the double jump. For a block this main character can maneuver quickly, and efficiently. I pulled off jumps in Life of Pixel that would be nearly impossible in other games. Players must collect all of the diamonds in a level before the exit door will open.

The old school visuals were a real treat in Life of Pixel. Although I noticed certain improvements here and there on some levels. The old school sounds enhance the environment in Life of Pixel. The replay value is high in Life of Pixel, especially when you consider having to beat some of the harder levels.

A really neat part of Life of Pixel is our main character avoids violence. He explodes if he makes contact with a hazard of enemy. With the exception of things like water - he just sinks. So Life of Pixel teaches us to avoid violent confrontations with those who want to do us harm. I appreciate that lesson.
