Bombcats

Bombcats fits into the Chillingo library perfectly. This cute little app starts with a cut scene to explain the story. Well sort of. I got the point that I was to free these cats thanks to some power that lets them blow up. So we find the imprisoned cats on a level, and we launch our Bomcat towards them. Once our Bombcat is close enough we explode them. There is a timer on each Bombcat, which means they will explode on their own when their timer reaches zero.

The little kitten is saved thanks to my explosive heroics. Bombcats has a map screen where we can visit shops to purchase upgrades and decide which level to take on next. Levels in Bombcats are generally short - like most flingers. The explosive addition is a different twist. But then I have come to expect that from Chillingo. They don't just churn out another clone to a certain style of game. They bring something new and different to the table.

Another twist in Bombcats is having to go back through previous levels in a timed mode. In this section of this iPhone/iPod Touch game we have to be as quick as possible. There are no collectible items to distract us. The down side is many times those collectible items showed us the perfect launch angle to get to the next platform.

One cool thing about Bombcats is we can launch a second time while in the air. I used this frequently to survive. I wish more games would include this feature. It helps with difficult levels, and it helps us correct mistakes on the fly. Which is what being a gamer is all about. And why so many companies actively seek us out.

I enjoyed my time with Bombcats. It is more challenging than many of the Chillingo apps, which is also a twist. Having to practice levels multiple times was a big part of this game for me. Bombcats has cute looking characters who relay their feline natures in the audio department.
