Zoo Story

Zoo Story is a free app on the iPhone. It can also be played on the iPod Touch. This is a social game that lets players start for free. However if you want to do certain things the game is requesting money. I found myself partially through construction only to find out I could not finish it. The other aspect of Zoo Story that got under my skin was sitting there waiting for something to do. It takes so many minutes to grow certain crops. I could sit there and wait for something to happen, or turn it off and play again later. I had crops die because I forgot to check back. Also why do I want to let all of my Facebook friends know each time I level up? They already get enough spam from other companies.

The pictures of the animals look very cute. Did you notice how I said pictures? There is no animation. The colors are bright, and the artwork is friendly to families. I like the artwork for the people, buildings, and animals. Some occasional animations would have been neat. This is an iPhone game but it feels more like a Facebook one to me.

The music is very catchy in Zoo Story. I wanted to catch all the animals, and oh wait that's a completely different franchise. Zoo Story kept me awake with the music. The upbeat tempo is the main reason. There are various items in Zoo Story. There are stars, money, gems, and more. The more I collected the more I could do.

You can’t argue with a game that lets you in the door for free. I am a little shocked at the high prices of real money to purchasing gems. This makes me think more of bait and switch with Zoo Story than a fun and complete game for families. They could have lowered the prices and charged a dollar for entrance. There are things to unlock in Zoo Story but many of them are similar or just take more time to attain.

The game play consists of tapping the screen in the right spot at the right time. Then you get to sit there and wait. Zoo Story is a game that has to connect to the Internet. I really hate it when games only let me play online. Especially on the iPhone. This drains the battery faster, and limits what else I can do. I am not clear as to why online only is how Zoo Story is played. I had spurts of fun with this app, but more times of boredom.

Zoo Story teaches us to take care of animals, build up an empire at a zoo, and to plant crops to feed them. I love the lesson in planting crops. Families will need to be aware of how this game can be used to drain your bank account. Watch your children if they are playing Zoo Story.
