Woody Woodpecker

Chillingo brings us some of the most interesting titles. As they have grown they have been getting bigger titles. Remember Superman? Well it is now Woody Woodpecker's turn in this hand held title. Woody Woodpecker is a racing game done on hills. Gain speed while going down hill, and fly up the other side. It does not take too long to get airborne.

I am very impressed with the polish and shine to the graphics in Woody Woodpecker. There are numerous cartoon characters to play with. I found Chilly Willy to be a better racer than Woody Woodpecker. More on that in just a bit. There is some cartoon violence as players can launch a weapon to mess up their opponents. Woody shoots a rocket, whereas Chilly splits out some fish. Players can also get too close to lightning clouds. You will know when you have done that.

The music in Woody Woodpecker brought back memories. Each character in Woody Woodpecker has their very own commentary. They have sound bytes they will say when certain things happen in the race. I got tired of Woody Woodpecker's comments, and went to other characters. Woody Woodpecker comments are mischievous.

Like most iPod Touch/iPhone games, Woody Woodpecker includes worlds. These worlds are unlocked by collecting so many items in previous worlds. Woody Woodpecker has a slight variation on this. It all depends on how well you do in a race. There are thumbs up for better performances. These thumbs up are what unlocks additional worlds. With all of that said, I do feel Woody Woodpecker is light on the levels.

One of the reasons Woody Woodpecker may feel like it is not light on levels is because they can be difficult to beat. Actually place in the top three. Races can feel similar after a fashion. I learned some tricks that helped me place high in most races. Get some air, and then turbo boost. This generally got me farther.

The main lesson in Woody Woodpecker is to get to the finish line first. By any means necessary. In a lot of ways Woody Woodpecker feels like a kart racer, but done in complete 2D. Woody Woodpecker has less variation than say a Mario Kart game, but it has a whole lot more air. All in all I found Woody Woodpecker to be a fun game that all ages can enjoy.
