Twinkle Toes
SCORE: 76

Product sponsored movies have a long track
record, and it is generally been a bad one. So when I started to watch
the Sketchers sponsored Twinkle Toes I hoped for the best. The good news
is Twinkle Toes is not an hour and eleven minute commercial. In fact the
shoes play a very small role in the storyline of this DVD.

The art style is very different in Twinkle Toes. This movie has a
diverse cast of characters. I found it interesting that the blonde girl
was the villain. Some of the characters movements are herky jerky. This
is when they are doing normal things like walking. They look better when
they are dancing. Twinkle Toes spends more time with characters dancing
		than anything else.

The storyline in Twinkle Toes is out of left field, and far out there in
left field. This young lady has talent for dancing, but hides it. She
only dances in front of Walter her pet bunny. Others find out about her
talent and enroll her in a performing arts academy. Her dancing style is
unconventional, which means the artsy teachers love it. But Grace has
		horrible stage fright.

As the movie progresses we eventually learn why Grace has stage fright.
When she was younger she disobeyed a teacher on how to dance. She
decided she knew better. This teacher vented her displeasure at the
disobedience and arrogance. Now Twinkle Toes presents it as the
traditional teacher was wrong, horrible, nasty, and mean. But I can see
		Grace's disobedience and arrogance.

The major lesson in Twinkle Toes is to be unique. There are also
teachings about how mistreated, and under funded the arts are. I can
tell you from all my years in Seattle that the arts are taken care of in
places like that. They are financially taken care of first. Then we have
to pay more taxes for essential services like the police and fire. The
arts are entertainment, and in my opinion not as high of a priority as
		essential services.

Please do not misunderstand me. I appreciate art and music. I purchase
the art and music that I enjoy. We have to be realistic - not everyone
can have their dreams paid for by others. There are plenty of gamers out
there who want to be paid to sit around and play games all day. But
their lifestyle is not financially supported by society. Plus Twinkle
Toes is clear that graduates will be extremely financially successful
		when they graduate.

There are a few odd things in Twinkle Toes. Grace and her father watch
horror films about brain eating zombies and lizards. A dance teacher
talks about going to a psychic for advice. Grace's mother has died, and
she takes her bunny everywhere she goes. Even places she is not supposed
to. I do not fathom her insistence on breaking the rules. Like she is
		above the rules.

Some things about Twinkle Toes that I appreciate are the glitter on her
shoes. She overcomes her fears. She stops blaming discipline for her
fears. She stops letting fear control her. She takes the negative of her
fainting (and it being posted on the Internet), and turns it into a
positive. Almost every character in Twinkle Toes dresses properly.
