Toy Story
Mania is inspired by the wildly popular Disneyland and Walt Disney World
attractions. The name of this Xbox 360 Kinect title may sound familiar.
Not that long ago there was a Wii version of Toy Story Mania. This game
also appears on the Playstation 3 on the Move.
Toy Story Mania has the feel of a carnival mixed with Toy Story. You
know Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang. Toy Story Mania has a heavy
emphasis on the shooting galleries. There are some Kinect and Move
specific kind of mini games. Things that reminded me of Fruit Ninja for
instance.
Certain mini games in Toy Story Mania control better with the
controller, while others control better with the Kinect. Please note
Family Friendly Gaming was provided the Xbox 360 version of Toy Story
Mania. Let me give two examples of where the controls worked better. The
controller was better suited for skeet bowling. The shooting gallery
games work much better with the Kinect. I suggest you try both and see
which you like better. It is neat that Disney Interactive Studios
included both.
I have one quibble with Toy Story Mania. It is difficult to get out of
the mini games. After completing one the control screen comes up for the
next one with a continue button. I would have loved for there to be -
take a break button. I had to mess around on different screens finding
the best way to quit.
Two family members can enjoy the five themed booths in Toy Story Mania.
The five themes are Army Men Challenges, Balloon Garden, Animals &
Friends, Space Frontier, and West West. Adventures can be played, any
unlocked game can be played by itself, or families can go into party
mode.
The violence in Toy Story Mania is pretty mild. We are popping balloons
or hitting targets for points. There might be a bandit in a mini game
who is stealing from the bank. Toy Story Mania encourages us to shoot
the bandit. That is the extent of the violence in Toy Story Mania.
