Toy Factory
SCORE: 79
Toy Factory is a cute little iPhone/iPod
Touch game that follows the free model. What is the free model? The game
is free to download, and free to play. Players can enjoy Toy Factory
completely for free. What is the catch? Well you have to wait so many
minutes or so many hours for things to happen. Unless you feel like
paying real world money to speed things up.
Toy Factory has a very cute look to it. Families can enjoy all kinds of
safe images of toys in the factory, and the store. The main game play
areas in Toy Factory are the factory - where the toys are built; and the
store - where the toys are sold. I spent most of my swapping between the
two of them. Get blueprints for a new toy, build it, and then find some
table space for it in the store.
The oddest thing about Toy Factory is the menu screens. They are
completely silent. Once the game play screen comes up then Toy Factory
has wonderful music. The special effect sounds fit this hand held game
quite well. An Internet connection is needed to play Toy Factory, and it
has a habit of crashing.
We were talking here at Family Friendly Gaming because Toy Factory
reminds us of another franchise. What is that franchise? Virtual City.
They have a similar feel to them. I like Toy Factory better though. It
does not clog down as quickly - unless you start sending cash over.
Being free means players can try Toy Factory before deciding if they
want to invest more money into it.
The main lesson in Toy Factory is to create something in the factory,
and sell it in the store. Along the way we are helping these toys
improve their lives. The education Toy Factory brings us is the
manufacturing model. This game can help kids understand where products
come from. I enjoyed playing Toy Factory.
The two things about Toy Factory that did not sit well with me were the
crashes, and having to connect to the Internet. The customization that
Toy Factory allows is absolutely insane. There are a lot of different
items that can be purchased. I like how Toy Factory teaches patience
that that building things takes time.
