Tokyo Jungle

Who does not like cute dogs and adorable kittens? Surely, everybody does, but in Tokyo jungle you will see them doing not-so-cute tasks. Tokyo Jungle is a different yet creative game. If I had to define it, I would say is a combat-rpg-strategy game with a little bit of platforming. The game is based on this fictional world where humanity has vanished and the animals have taken over the cities - in this case Tokyo. Your objective is simple, try to survive as much time as you can. In order to do this you will need to hunt (animals or plants) and control areas in order to mate which will continue your generation of animals. Each generation will have an extra attributes, therefore making it stronger than the last generation.

You start off with just 2 animals, a little Pomeranian dog and a Sika deer, but you can unlock way more animals, such as lions, elephants and even a dinosaur. Each animal has their own objectives and challenges that you must accomplish in order to unlock new character and also new clothes to dress up your animal. It is important to mention that when you die, you have to start all over again but you will keep your current generation attributes and clothes. When you die all of the point you earned can be spent on the store, where you an buy clothes for your animal (you need to unlock the clothes first in order to buy them)

You do have survival and story mode, something I don't understand is why you need to play survival mode in order to unlock story mode chapters. I wish you could just play story mode without being worry about survival. Story mode has the same mechanics as survival but the difference is you are following a story line. Multiplayer is local, same thing as single player but with 2 players. I wish they had regular multiplayer online, it would have made the game even more rich.

Graphics-wise the game is pretty average, if not bad, but then again graphics don't play an important role in this game, although it would have been better if they would have put more time into the city and its surroundings. Sounds effects are what you could expect, average at most; most of the times the soundtrack will change to this pop-kinda tune. When it comes to replayability I would say is moderate low. You do have to come back to unlock new characters and new clothes and also mate to make your generation stronger, but that can becomes boring when you do it multiple times.

Tokyo Jungle does include a lot of animal violence, as you would expect, since you will be hunting to survive. I would not recommend this game for the kids (It is rated T) since it is indeed violent and it gets kinda dark sometimes.

Overall Tokyo Jungle was a weird and somehow enjoyable experience, you do have a lot to do but most of the time is the same thing; hunting and surviving. You do have to think and make your strategies in order to accomplish some of the tasks. Combat is pretty simple and there is not too many skills involved. For the price I would say to pick it up if you enjoy survival games with simple combat and simple strategies, you get a lot of hours of entertainment and, who knows maybe this is the right game for you.
