Thundercats

When I was a child I watched some of the Thundercats cartoons. It had some occult elements in it, but nothing as bad as the He-Man franchise. The whole cat-people thing was a bit odd. Fast forward to 2012 and Thundercats is back on television, and Namco Bandai has published a Nintendo DS game on the new cartoon.

I need to disclose a couple of things before I go any deeper. I have not seen the new Thundercats cartoon. Namco Bandai has been a favorite publisher of mine for some time now. They routinely publish games for different areas of the family. Which is very important to us here at Family Friendly Gaming.

I question why Thundercats was put on the Nintendo DS as opposed to the Nintendo 3DS. Especially since it carries the Everyone 10 years old and older. Which brings me to another point. I know kids under the age of ten like the Thundercats. So I am a bit confused why this title was not made for a younger audience.

If you like to hear: "Thundercats HO," then you will love the audio in Thundercats. It is crystal clear every single time I heard it. And I heard it quite often while playing Thundercats on the Nintendo DS. Lion-O is on a quest to save his father from the evil lizard people, and to stop their invading hordes.

The game play and visuals in Thundercats go hand in hand. We have guys from the left side of the screen and the right side of the screen attack us. We hack and slash them away. We can also use one of our friends and the power of the sword when they are available. It can take time and kills to get it charged. Those special attacks are neat to see.

Many of the graphics in Thundercats are small, and lacking in detail. I also noticed various graphics being reused. The boss battles are a little bit more interesting that hacking and slashing through hundreds of the same looking guys. The bosses also require a ton of hits to dispose of.
