The Great Mouse Detective
The Great Mouse Detective has made it to Blu-ray. Family Friendly
Gaming was provided the Blu-ray + DVD. This is referenced as the Mystery
in the Mist Edition. This is not my first time watching and reviewing
The Great Mouse Detective. I think I liked it more this time than the
The Sherlock Holmes storyline is fantastic to see in an animated movie. The animation is fantastic in The Great Mouse Detective. There are certain moments of peril for different characters. At least one character is eaten by a cat. A seedy bar has a singer and dancer who likes to shake some things around. The tough mice fall in love with her over it.
The voice actors are distinct and distinguished. The songs are catchy and there is a bonus feature where we can sing along with the Ratigan song. That song will get stuck in your head. It it is still rattling around in my brain. I appreciate how respectful the characters are in The Great Mouse Detective, even the evil ones.
Both the Blu-ray and DVD contain all of the bonus features. They are: "So you Think you can Sleuth," The Making of The Great Mouse Detective, and "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind" Sing-Along Song. If you already have the DVD version of The Great Mouse Detective there is not much new, except for the enhanced high definition.
I noticed a real strong theme of loyalty and friendship in The Great Mouse Detective this time around. The doctor convinces Basil to keep fighting. Do not give up. Later Basil convinces the doctor to stay with him as they get another case. Their friendship is a strong theme throughout this movie.
I hope to see additional movies based on these characters. The Great Mouse Detective is a fantastic film that has withstood the test of time. The Great Mouse Detective is as good today as when it was originally released.
