Super Ball Escape

Super Ball Escape was free for a few days, so we downloaded it. I am finally getting to a review of this app. This game reminds me of Marble Madness in some ways. Players control a round robotic object with eyes. Tilt the iPhone/iPod Touch to roll the ball in various directions. Playlithium went beyond this concept though. There are robots who will try and stop the player, and there are power ups. One of most interesting power ups is turning into a trash can. A robot comes by, sees the trash can, and takes the player to another part of the maze.

The graphics in Super Ball Escape have a technology feel to them. Players can fall off the edge, and get their health drained. Losing all your health will cause the player’s robotic orb to explode. Progressing into later levels grant the player the power of hurting the robots that are out to stop you. The violence is mild in Super Ball Escape but still present. It can be difficult to avoid damage in some areas because of the small window of opportunity.

The music and sound effects in Super Ball Escape continue the technology theme. The alarm sounds in Super Ball Escape will grab the player’s attention. I found this sound to be extremely irritating. I enjoyed the special sound effects that are played when I completed a level. Super Ball Escape does a great job teaching the player how to play this game.

Super Ball Escape includes twelve huge levels and three difficulty settings. The price of this app is currently ninety-nine cents. This is a unique enough experience that I believe makes it worth the price of admission. There is one thing you will need to understand about Super Ball Escape. This is one challenging game.

The precise tilt controls can be adjusted at any point. This helps because I would hold the iPod Touch different ways at different times. The levels are challenging in Super Ball Escape. Thankfully there are map terminals all over the levels. Tapping on one lets the player map out their next moves. My one complaint about that is certain enemy robots can be difficult to see in map mode since their yellow and red areas are not shown.

The main lesson I learned in Super Ball Escape is to be patient. There are some areas that I had to rush through, and then slow it back down. That reminds me of the military - hurry up and wait. I also learned to be very careful with movements. I would appreciate sequels to this app in the near future. The violent content could be toned down, and more levels would be great. I had fun playing Super Ball Escape on the iPhone/iPod Touch.
