Sorcery

Players take on the role of Finn in Sorcery on the Playstation 3. He is taunted by a talking cat Erline, which is technically not a cat - but you can learn some things for yourself. He is impatient and lacking discipline. Because of this he unleashes the Nightmare Queen on this fantasy world. He is also very disobedient. Because of his character defects he has to do things the hard way.

There are two glimmers of hope for Finn in Sorcery. One he is a natural born spellcaster, and two he has a wise master by the name of Dash. If he would have only listened to Dash he would not be in such a mess. But then we would not have a fantasy action adventure video game to play if he played by the rules.

The violence level in Sorcery is high. I was constantly flicking my Playstation Move controller around to launch some form of magic at the bad guys. The bad guys repeat over and over again in levels. Magic is bright and colorful to the offset of a dark world. I expected some amazing details in Sorcery, and was honestly a little let down with what I found.

I like the voice actors in Sorcery. They are extremely talented. Sorcery contains witty banter that can produce laughs. It can also produce a different response - that the characters are being mean or cruel to one another. I noticed various attitudes in the characters in Sorcery. Finn and Erline are not role models in any way, shape, or form. Emulating them in our world could lead to serious problems.

Sorcery

Sorcery includes a lengthy story mode, alchemy, combo system, and a way to develop your character. There are numerous trophies for good and bad things we do in the game. We wind up fighting all kinds of different creatures. The ghosts at the beginning can be on the unnerving side. It can scare children under thirteen.

This brings up something I am very curious about. The ESRB gave Sorcery an 'E10+' rating. That is for everyone ten years old and older. In my opinion Sorcery should have been a 'T' for Teen rated video game. The biggest concern the readers of Family Friendly Gaming will most likely have with Sorcery is the magic. It is the main theme and the main focus of this game. The entire world in this game is immersed in it.

The positive side of Sorcery is we are on the side of good fighting the hordes of evil. Ever wonder why we get a few characters and evil gets such hordes? It never seem fair or even close to being evenly matched. Yet good prevails against overwhelming odds. Parents can use Sorcery to explain why discipline is a good thing, and why patience is a good thing. I see kids in public who could use more discipline.

There are multiple sore wrists here at Family Friendly Gaming thanks to all the magic wand waving in Sorcery. Be sure to take breaks at a regular interval to avoid personal injury.
