Save the Furries
SCORE: 80
Family Friendly Gaming routinely suggests
certain games get ported over to other platforms. Save the Furries is
one of those games. It has moved from the iPad to the Wii. This is an
intelligent move. Save the Furries is selling for 1000 Wii points -
translation ten dollars. Players must guide these little green guys to
the finish location. Which can be easier said than done, since there are
so many different hazards.
Save the Furries is one of those video games that you have to pay
attention to the surroundings. Which can be a problem thanks to the
extremely small graphics. Save the Furries starts out showing us the
entire level at the beginning. Players can zoom in to get a better view.
This is awesome with one small exception - not seeing other parts of the
level. I routinely would zoom in, launch these guys and not see where
they went. Or not able to get to them in time to save them from the next
problem. Which led me to spend most of time zoomed out, and I missed
hazards.
Save the Furries can be an exercise in frustration if the player does
not learn from their mistakes. Levels start out easy, but quickly become
challenging. Expect to replay certain levels multiple times before
completing them. This makes Save the Furries feel longer than the sixty
levels that it is. Quick memorization is an essential skill in Save the
Furries.
There is one pattern in Save the Furries that is repeated. There are
always just enough objects to get our guys past the hazards. Lets say
there is a pit with spikes. Two logs will be in the level to fill that
gap. Save the Furries is also kind to the players in how many characters
we have to get to the finish line. So a few mistakes are allowed in most
of the levels of this home console video game.
I like the music in Save the Furries. It fits the theme, and is fun. The
squish sound made when these poor guys died was not as pleasant. I
noticed some mischief in Save the Furries as well. Players can kill off
these poor little guys in a variety of ways. I always felt bad about
their deaths. So I received no pleasure out of that whatsoever.
Families need to pay attention to the minimum age restriction the ESRB
put on Save the Furries. I would not recommend this game for children.
It is challenging for adults who have played for years like myself. I
can see kids getting frustrated with Save the Furries. This game fits
nicely on the Wii since it challenges our minds to find the solutions to
each problem.
