Radio Rebel

Tara Adams (played by Debby Ryan) is a shy teenager. She is essentially the invisible girl in her high school. But she has a small secret. She is actually doing an internet radio show. She is Radio Rebel. She encourages her generation to leave the labels behind and be themselves. She denounces the class system, and how biased the principal is.

Thankfully I did not find any disrespecting of authority figures in Radio Rebel. The principal takes away headphones and music devices from certain students. The students never openly disrespect her. They dance, and have fun. The kids stop when told to. Radio Rebel shows they are just trying to have fun and be kids.

Radio Rebel speaks out against what she perceives as injustices. I am sure many of us out there can remember injustices in high school, college, work, etc. Don't talk to that person because they are not popular enough, or only hanging out with someone because of their social status. Those kinds of things divide us.

Radio Rebel plays some neat music that I enjoyed. I was not the only one. My hubby asked for a song to be downloaded, and our kids were dancing while watching this 89 minute movie. Radio Rebel focuses on music, but is not a musical. It has a secret identity, but is not a super hero film. It is a high school movie that feels grown up. Radio Rebel is charming, fresh and fun.

The ending of Radio Rebel had some interesting twists and turns. The principal threatens to expel Radio Rebel when she finds out who it is. She wins prom queen. But will she actually step out of the shadows? Talk about a tough decision. Especially when you are telling people to be yourself and not be afraid to face the consequences. The radio station wants to keep her identity a secret. So what does she do?

Sorry you will have to watch Radio Rebel to find out. I can tell you that this DVD is definitely worth the price of admission. I love Tara's attitude, and how she inspires so many people around her. She wins over her greatest enemy with kindness. She thinks of others. Radio Rebel is a great movie for families.
