Peakour
SCORE: 82
After playing Peakour I am sick and tired
of pea puns. This app uses them to death. I know it is trying to be
clever and funny, but at some point I said: "Enough is enough already!"
Peakour is a decent enough game that it can stand on its own feet
without. The main character is a pea and we are trying to guide him to
the target.
How do we guide our pea to the target? We play objects in his path that
fill the gaps. That way he can make it. What nothing to collect you
might asking. Yes we collect bottle caps. I guess we are in the 1950s,
and will sell them to the local grocer. Enough joking around, it is time
to get totally serious.
Peakour has a subdued look to it. The little pea character had some slow
animations at first. I am not completely sold on his animations or the
attire choices. There are some gross looking creatures at the bottom of
the screen from time to time, as well as zombie peas. Why? I don't know,
and I am not going into a Who's on First routine.
The music in Peakour is phenomenal. I was playing Peakour, and just
jamming away to the music. The special effect sounds are also great. I
heard that bottle cap collection sound on a routine basis. There are one
hundred levels in four worlds in Peakour. So we get a lot of game for
the ninety-nine cents.
The game play in Peakour is different. We hit the play button and watch
him run through the little maze. More of a 2D side scroller to be
precise. If we made a mistake then we move objects around. These objects
are called trash. So I guess we are putting trash to good use. I knew I
should have worn gloves before playing Peakour.
I felt weird just watching that guy and not actually controlling him.
But I adapted. I know it can be difficult to come up with a completely
new mascot. We have plumbers, hedgehogs, bandicoots, cats, dogs, bird,
and more in the industry. So I give Peakour points for creativity, and
trying something really different. I believe there is an audience out
there for this app. It is just not my personal flavor, and I like to eat
Split Pea Soup.
