Okami HD
SCORE: 62
Okami HD is huge. It is mega huge. It is
Moto Moto from Madagascar 2 huge. And I am talking about the size of the
game if you download it. We are talking over six gigs. I had to clear
out many games from the Playstation 3 just to download Okami HD. Family
Friendly Gaming was provided a download code for this game which is why
I started with this tidbit of information.
Okami HD is all about a heroic wolf, and a swordsman from a village.
This PS3 game is stuffed full of all these different spirits, gods, and
demons. Okami HD has a definite eastern religious proselytizing in it.
It can be difficult to go through any conversation without it coming up.
The real headache for me came when I started playing Okami HD. The
graphics are conducive to creating migraines. I think four colors were
used in some areas of this cel shaded video game. I am sure the loose
camera had something to do with it as well. There are points of
violence, enticement to lust, and odd looking creatures.
The whole animal theme in Okami HD is different. I will give this game
that. I can think of a handful of games that let us actually play as
animals. In Okami HD this animal is the savior and one to be worshiped.
Which fell on deaf ears for me because I know how dangerous wolves are.
Sorry I am not going to pet one, no matter how much one video game makes
it out to be a hero.
The controls are interesting, but felt too loose to me. Plus certain
things are not explained very well. I spent ten minutes trying to figure
out how to jump up that first wall. The game was not clear on that.
Saves are few and far between in Okami HD. In fact that is my biggest
irritation with this game - the saves are not close enough. Oh and I
could not skip the story scenes. Which lasted forever.
Okami HD is not close to family friendly. I got dizzy from reading all
the different ESRB discovered descriptor issues. And they did not touch
on the spiritual teachings and nature of this PS3 game. I missed this
game when it first came out. After playing it I would say I did not miss
it much though.
