Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth
SCORE: 70
My review of Marvel Avengers Battle for
Earth may surprise some of our readers out there. They might wonder why
a violent fighting game gets such a high score. I will do my best to
explain that. First let me dry the sweat off my face with a towel.
Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth gave me a work out.
Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth utilizes the Kinect in the same way
PowerUp Heroes did. We get into certain stances and make certain motions
for our on screen super hero to perform specific attacks. String these
together for combos, and build a gauge for an Ultra attack. Those Ultra
attacks are insanely powerful and very cinematic.
There is a storyline in Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth involving the
Skrulls invading earth. So in campaign mode we have to fight Skrull
versions of other super heroes. It is a lame way to have us fighting
other heroes. Civil War from the Marvel universe would have made more
sense, but that is my opinion. Take it for what its worth.
Certain female characters are wearing tight and/or revealing clothing.
It gets really gross when they are in Skrull versions. Marvel Avengers
Battle for Earth contains a high volume of violence. What is interesting
(at least to me) is how the super powered attacks hide much of the
violence. When I am pummeling someone with my fists it shows. But if I
throw a boulder at them, the violence is hidden.
Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth can be extremely fast and furious.
Attacks have to recharge after being used. This forces the player to try
different attacks, or take a hit or two. Multiple older family members
can enjoy Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth at the same time. There is
also an online mode for those that enjoy competing online.
The work out factor is one of the coolest things about Marvel Avengers
Battle for Earth. I was intrigued by the storyline, but I enjoyed
getting a sweat. Real life stamina can come into play in Marvel Avengers
Battle for Earth as well. If someone tires out, they may miss an attack
and that could lead them to losing a round or the entire match.
I strongly suggest parents pay close attention to the ESRB's suggested
beginning age range. Be responsible and do not let kids underage play.
Think of it like alcohol - apply the same standard. Family members old
enough can get their Marvel geek on. They can have Hulk fight Wolverine,
or Thor versus Iron Man.
Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth gives the player two super heroes to
fight with. They fight against two others. So swapping them in and out
can be an additional part of the strategy. Plenty of achievement to
unlock, and numerous hours of gameplay can be found in Marvel Avengers
Battle for Earth.
