Little Big Planet 2 Special Edition

After the big success of Little Big Planet 1, Sony and Media Molecule bring us the second installment of this acclaimed series that a lot of people were waiting for. You play again as Sackboy, and this time your objective is simple, save the world from the hands (mouth in this case) of the “Negativitron”, a huge inter-dimensional vacuum cleaner that sucks up everything in the colorful world of Little Big Planet 2. You make your way through 7 levels; each one with their own theme, soundtrack and items to discover. In each level your main objective is to get to the end while trying to collect as many bubbles and prizes as you can. Little bubbles give you points that are used to rank you in the leaderboards, while big bubbles are filled with stickers, costumes and objects, all of which can be used in your character or in your level (Yes, you can make your own levels in this game)

The campaign is not that long but the prizes and bubbles will make you replay the level in order to get them, so the replay value is moderate high in this game. Although the campaign is pretty good, there is even more to do in Little big planet 2. There is the ability to create your own levels and even more exciting is the ability to play other peoples levels. You might be wondering how many levels are there right now? Well, over 6 million community created levels, that is a lot of levels. If you buy the Special Edition you get 2 more levels, one of them Toy Story related and the other one you need to use the Playstation move, which sadly I don’t own; You also get a lot of costumes to use in your character!

Besides all that, you can also decorate your own “Pod”, which is like your home in the game. You can place stickers, paint it, put objects in it and just do whatever you want. Then after all that you can invite your friends over to talk or just play some levels. Little Big Planet 2 Special Edition is all about the social aspect.

I must admit the soundtrack in this game is just wonderful. Each level has a soundtrack that is totally fitting; it is worth mentioning that one of the soundtracks was nominated for several awards, that’s how good they are.

The level of customization in this game will let you create your very own Sackboy. Dozens of accessories are available for you so you can make your Sackboy however you want. All this mixed creates a wonderful game; innocent and simple yet with a lot of puzzles that will make your brain sweat. You won’t see blood, cursing or any kind of profanity, this game was designed for the family and you can play up to 4 players at the same time. It can be a little difficult to keep up with your partner when playing because the screen moves as the character goes, so you can get behind and die because of that.

The graphics can be really creative and bright in one level and then very cartoony or serious in another one. The variety is stunning and it makes you want to go back just to appreciate the atmosphere of the game. I had a blast playing through sackboy’s world, meeting the interesting character and just enjoying the music and graphics. After a while it gets repetitive but with all the 6 million community levels, it’s hard to stop playing this game, no doubt this has been one of the best platformer of 2011.
