Kirbys Epic Yarn

I have to admit that Kirby’s Epic Yarn was a disappointment for me. I played this at E3 in the year of our Lord 2010, and was very excited about it. Fast forward to when I could afford the game, and the novelty had passed. Maybe if I was reviewing it six months ago, the outcome would be different. But somehow I doubt it. We went completely through this game in six hours. Thankfully I only spent twenty dollars on this game. I would be irritate if I had spent fifty. Kirby gets turned into a piece of yarn, and the majority of this game is played inside a sock. What I found really odd is Kirby stayed in yarn form even when he makes it back to Dreamland. There are a few Dreamland levels sewn together for this Wii game.

The graphics in Kirby’s Epic Yarn take some getting used to. Too bad the game is so short. In fact near the end of the game is when I finally started to be able to see things properly in this game. At times I would jump hoping to find a platform. They can be difficult to discern. There is violence in Kirby’s Epic Yarn. You unravel yarn creatures, pick some up, and throw them at others. There are also shooter levels, and tank levels.

The music stands out in Kirby’s Epic Yarn as fun. I love listening to the music in Kirby’s Epic Yarn. The special effect sounds are also pretty good. The voice actor is very soothing. I wish he would have more to say, as certain lines are repeated multiple times. The prince performs some comic mischief against Kirby in certain cut scenes. Kirby does not turn the other cheek, but tries to get revenge.

The length of Kirby’s Epic Yarn is the biggest problem I see with this game. There are extras to find, and purchase. Decorating an apartment is not even up to a miniature version of Animal Crossing. Ultimately collecting beads became pointless to us. I felt like my money was wasted on Kirby’s Epic Yarn.

The controls in Kirby’s Epic Yarn are very easy. The biggest issue with the level design is trying to figure out what to do in certain places. Not everything is spelled out. There are a few areas we got stuck in because we had to do something that made little sense to us at first. I suppose this prolonged the game play a little bit.

I like that Kirby’s Epic Yarn is approachable by more family members. Hardcore gamers will only complain about Kirby’s Epic Yarn though. There is little challenge even in the end boss. You can’t die in this Wii game. At least I could not figure a way to do it. Many of the levels have been done repeatedly in Nintendo titles as well.
