Jane by Design Volume One

Jane is a teenage girl who lives in two worlds. The first is high school where she is invisible. Not literally but that is how she feels emotionally. The second is the high world of fashion. She went to the fashion company for an internship, and was mistaken for an adult. She went to her friend to get forged documents so she could get away with it.

The fake IDs and deceit is one theme of Jane by Design Volume One that morally and ethically hurts it. Jane's dream is to work at this fashion company. She loves the work. But her lack of patience to get there the right way exhibits something I have seen in the youth of today. They don't want to pay their dues, and work their way up. They want the kudos and success without the hard work of getting there.

The fashion in Jane by Design Volume One is definitely for the cat walks. Jane by Design Volume One reminds me of conversations I had with friends over the years. Few normal people will ever wear those dresses. Artsy people may congratulate one another, and charge obscene prices for their designs, but the super majority will wear what is practical and needed.

There are a few episodes in Jane by Design Volume One that contains certain levels of skin being shown. After a few episodes I was commenting on how clean the characters dressed. Then we hit some male models walking around wet and topless. Then certain female characters were changing and showing more skin than normal. India dresses the most seductively.

There are some language issues in Jane by Design Volume One. Generally it is rare, but it is there. All of the lying does get old. I know it can lead to some humorous situations when we see characters go to great lengths to keep the cover up going. But it makes me ask the question - Does anyone out there view Watergate or Clintongate as humorous? If its not okay in the real world, why do we laugh at it in entertainment?

There are ten episodes in Jane by Design Volume One that come to 435 minutes of viewing. The storylines build and grow in these two discs. Characters roam romantically from one to another. I hate to say it but Jane by Design Volume One reminds me of Beverly Hills 90210 in that regard. Sex is shown as a casual thing in Jane by Design Volume One that is rather meaningless.

One of the best things about Jane by Design Volume One is it shows how the job can completely consume you. Jane does have to face the music with a few characters in terms of her lying. What disturbs me is they decide to protect her secret because its her dream. In the real world it does not matter how good your work is - if you lie on your application your out the door. Forging documents is frowned upon legally. No matter how good your intentions were.

The characters in Jane by Design Volume One will suck you in like a soap opera. The level of depth of the characters is interesting to me. Some look shallow at first until we learn more about them. They have different interests and motives. The whole mole thing had me guessing up until the end. The cliffhanger in the last minute of Jane by Design Volume One will keep faithful fans hooked.
