Gobliiins

I finally figured out Gobliiins. It may have taken me months, but this point and click adventure now makes sense to me. It was a breakthrough of epic proportions. For those that do not know we got Gobliiins way before Gobliiins 2. Unfortunately we could not get it work. So we waited for a patch. Once that came I hit a brick wall. I could not get past the first level. I did not comprehend what the tips were telling me. I also was reading the first tip thinking that was all the game was giving me. I was wrong. Recently I figured out my mistake, and have been able to enjoy Gobliiins on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

The graphics in Gobliiins are of a cartoon nature. The goblins themselves look sort of loveable. Okay they are not exactly plush toy materials. But they are also not hideous looking either. The art style fits the theme. Gobliiins includes a lot of comic relief. When you do something wrong your little guys get damaged, scared, etc. This is part of the ‘charm’ of this kind of a game.

The sounds fit the theme of this game, and they enhance the experience. The comic nature of the sounds in Gobliiins brought a smile to my face on more than one occasion. The critters talk in gibberish. So Gobliiins stays true to its roots. I would advise parents to follow Apples rating at a minimum. Younger children do not need to be exposed to this material, and this game would frustrate them.

Bear in mind we were given a download code for Gobliiins. I checked the price, and it seems fair for the amount of content. I am not sure you will want to replay it after beating it though. Maybe after some water has passed beneath the bridge. This also lets the player experience the beginning of this franchise.

There are two different control schemes in Gobliiins. I found myself swapping back and forth between them. Some tasks are easier to do in one than the other. The hints will completely walk you through what needs to be done. This can kill the replay value. I had fun exploring Gobliiins and finding the different animations.

One of the characters is a magician and he is used throughout the game. He casts magic on things. A voodoo doll is shown at the beginning of the game, and it is what is hurting the king. Zombies and various other creatures are in Gobliiins. I do like the style of game play in Gobliiins, and am pleased to see it return.
