Final Fantasy XIII-2 Final Fantasy XIII-2

Final Fantasy has been one of the most well known franchises in the entire video game industry. Square Enix used to do Final Fantasy games as one shots, and never visited that fantasy universe ever again. Thankfully years ago they decided sequels to fantasy universes would be allowed. Hence the release of Final Fantasy XIII-2 on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

It is better to play Final Fantasy XIII before playing Final Fantasy XIII-2. The characters, their journey, and their relationships will make more sense. The science fiction style of fantasy world will make much more sense. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is all about time travel. Two main characters travel along the timeline cleaning up time paradoxes. They are doing this to save the future.

The graphics in Final Fantasy XIII-2 are very realistic. The characters, weapons, areas, and even Mog look very realistic. This also goes for the female characters who are not wearing very many threads. There is also a wide array of violence in Final Fantasy XIII-2. This ranges from weapons to magical spells. The odd creatures will also attack and do damage. The screen gets a pretty red when your characters are close to dying.

The game play mechanic in Final Fantasy XIII-2 is very fascinating. A monster appears and there is a large circle around them. A clock starts to tick away from green to yellow, and finally to red. If you attack the creature in green you get a preemptive strike. if you run out of the circle before it hits red then you are free to go. So the enemies surprise the player, and you get to see them.

The music in Final Fantasy XIII-2 is fantastic. The voice acting is excellent, and the mood is created. The characters in Final Fantasy XIII-2 are complex, and deep. There is bad language in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Rarely did this reviewer feel it was ever needed, and actually distracted from the events at hand. Hopefully Final Fantasy XIII-3 will clean that up.

The older members of the family that play Final Fantasy XIII-2 can expect around thirty hours or more of game play time on easy mode. There are numerous side quests, and extras to unearth. Various jobs, skills, and monsters in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Some may even want to try different answers in the Live Triggers. Some of the replay comes from back tracking which will be explained in just a minute.

The main drawback to the time travel matrix in Final Fantasy XIII-2 is how it is done. For example, we get so many artefacts (which open pathways to other time zones). You will not know where this gate will take you. So it is a gamble if you are going to the next part of the story or skipping ahead. Skipping ahead sounds great except you may not last long in that area at that level.

Families will be interested to know that Final Fantasy XIII-2 contains a fair amount of goddess worship in it. This religious belief has been woven into this home console game. To be honest it does not really seem to fit the storyline, and is something that should have been left at the door. The quest in Final Fantasy XIII-2 morphs from one thing to another. It can be difficult to relate to saving the time line since few of us will ever face such a predicament in real life. Okay, probaby none of us.
