Endless Ocean Blue World
SCORE: 63
I had high hopes for Endless Ocean Blue World. There were some real high points in the original Endless Ocean video game on the Wii. There were also some areas that needed to be addressed. Endless Ocean Blue World tries to make an adventure out of this video game. In fact the first playable level got me excited about this game. Then it goes into a major flashback and I had to play up to that spot. Who doesn’t want to discover a sunken city? The characters in Endless Ocean Blue World are predictable, and play to their types as expected.
There are ups and down in terms of the graphics of Endless Ocean Blue World. I can tell that a lot of work was put into the marine life. There was not much put into the effects of the water on the surface. I also noticed how poorly the humans animated. They look and move as stiff as boards. Then we have the attire of most of the female characters. Nintendo went all edgy with that. There is some violence in Endless Ocean Blue World where animals will attack the player. Thankfully there are no Soul Surfer moments in this Wii game.
The intro song in Endless Ocean Blue World is awesome. I loved that song. It made me think of Enya for some reason. Certain characters are edgy in this Wii game, and I guess that was there to try and drum up drama. Nintendo has not progressed into intelligent design with Endless Ocean Blue World either. The religion of evolution is preached in this game.
There is a lot of content in Endless Ocean Blue World. Numerous locales to explore, and a lot of aquatic creatures to learn about. Families may be offended by some of the content that is used to describe these creatures. I found stuff that could have been left out, and this would have been a better game.
What is the point of having a timer in a game that is encouraging exploration? I found myself being rushed trying to complete objectives. I was not able to smell the roses, or seaweed in this case. Sure I could dive again, but that defeats the purpose of an exploration video game in my opinion. The story line was front and center in Endless Ocean Blue World, and it winds up taking over.
One lesson I
learned in Endless Ocean Blue World is the ocean is a dangerous place. I
also learned that mystical items are hidden around. They are out there
waiting for me to find them. Endless Ocean Blue World proselytizes
evolution, which is a real shame. I wish this game had been regionalized
for the majority of Americans who do not believe in that fairy tale.
